Check out my friend, Pauline's page for a review of the Rob Thomas concert we went to yesterday.  I think I have a crush on Rob Thomas now.

The South Beach Diet

As many of you know, I started the South Beach Diet over two weeks ago.  Everyone asks me the usual questions. What is it?  How much have you lost, etc?  If you want those answered, let me know, but I wanted to write about some thoughts I’ve had ever since I began this journey.

  1. Physically- It works. I have lost some serious weight. But what I love the most about South Beach is that it’s a total change in lifestyle, how you eat, and how you live. It totally works. I mean, I don’t even really want to eat all that pasta and bread anymore. And sure I miss sweets, but I just had a bite of a brownie and it totally satisfied me.  I’m also working out 3-4 times a week.

  1. Socially- A week after I started South Beach, some of my coworkers decided to go on Weight Watchers.  Some other coworkers went on some cabbage soup diet.  The biggest testament is on Fridays we always have bagels in the office. This past Friday several bagels were left. With everyone dieting at the same time, no one wanted to eat those bagels and muffins.  There’s power in numbers.

It reminds of that old Christian campfire song, “Pass It On”. “It only takes a spark to get a fire going..” I wish spreading the gospel in the workplace was as easy as passing on diet tips.

  1. Spiritually - The South Beach has also made me very disciplined in my life.  Every night I’m making my lunch for the next day.  These past two mornings, I’ve been doing my quiet times while preparing all my food.  I’ve been reminded about how important it is to meet spiritually on a daily basis with God.  It just makes you more focused in the morning.

It definitely can be an issue of pride.  I won’t lie, I was very proud of myself when I ate all this stuff and lost all this weight, but as I do my quiet times, I’m reminded of how temporary our earthly bodies are compared to our heavenly bodies.

I'm Digital

I finally caved and bought a digital camera online today.  Amazon had a great deal on the Canon S410 finally broke down when I realized I'd be going to all these schools.

I figured I should probably try to take pictures and enjoy.  Also, I realized if I do attend Michigan, and I'm separated from my friends I need to take as many pictures as I can now while I'm still around.

Apathy

A dear friend of mine were chatting at a coffee house the other day and we realized how apathetic we were becoming with the Lord. Instead we were consumed by so many other things like work and friends.  This past week I started the South Beach Diet and I realized how strong willed I really am.  I've been cooking more gourmet, healthy food than I ever have in my entire life. It's really interesting because when you think about it, I stay up until the wee hours of the night preparing my food for the next day, and yet I am not willing to do my quiet times or spend time with the Lord.

And the really scary thought is..if you think it's hard now, imagine how much more difficult it will be when we're all married with kids.  I don't know how people do it.
